DEAR PROSPECTIVE BANDMEMBER

As Director of Bands at Texas College, I would like to personally extend an opportunity for you to become a part of our program. Your presence, musicianship and enthusiasm certainly will add to the success of the newly established program. However, as you proceed in completing your school year it is important that you use this time to decide where you would like to attend school. Texas College is committed to developing the total student from academics, athletics, and the arts. As you prepare yourself for the next level of the educational process please read the info as we feel it will assist you in your decision process:


MEMBERSHIP

Membership in the College Bands is highly selective, with admission based upon musical ability. A student aspiring to become a band member should possess the following:

1 Musicianship up to the level of the band as a whole
2. Qualities of character, responsibility and dependability
3. Mental alertness and astuteness
4. Normal physical agility and conditions of health (Marching Band)
5. Attitudes of cooperation and willingness to measure up to the full potentials of ability
6. Satisfactory achievement in other school activities.
7. Respect for leadership of student officers.

Students who do not meet the requirements for marching band membership but possess the potential for meeting the requirements will be placed in a developmental group until the requirements are met. Members of the developmental group will be called upon to fill vacancies in the regular marching lineup.

AUDITIONS

Auditions for membership in each of the Bands, and for scholarships will be conducted by the Band Director(s) prior to acceptance into the band program for the first time, and when deemed necessary, based upon the following criteria:

a. Tone production and quality
b. Technique and execution
c. Sight reading ability
d. Scales
e. Knowledge of general musical notation, or assigned material.
